EphrinBproteinsarethoughttoplaykeyrolesincellularfunctionsasdiverseasneuronalmigrationandbloodvesseldevelopment(FlanaganandVanderhaeghen,1998;Dufouretal.,2003;Oikeetal.,2002).EphrinBmoleculesexpressedatthemembranesurfacebindtotheEphBfamilyreceptorsontargetcellsduringcell-tocellcontact.ThisinteractionleadstocellsignalinginthetargetcellbutalsogeneratesareversesignalinthecellexpressingEphrinBonitssurface.Thisreversesignalingeventisthoughttobecriticalforvesselmaturationandneuronaldevelopment.Importantly,tyrosinephosphorylationofEphrinBisthoughttobeacriticalcomponentofthisreversesignalingevent(Palmeretal.,2002).RecentworksuggeststhatphosphorylationofaspecificEphrinBresidue(Tyr298)playsakeyroleinEphrinBsignaling(Kalo,etal.,2001).
