REDD1,RegulatedinDevelopmentandDNAdamageresponses1,isinducedbyhypoxia,cellstress,andapoptosis.ReducedREDD1levelscansensitizecellstowardsapoptosis,whereelevatedlevelsofREDD1inducedbyhypoxiacandesensitizecellstoapoptoticstimuli(Schwarzeretal,2005).REDD1hasacrucialroleininhibitingmammalianrapamycincomplex1(mTORC1)signalingduringhypoxicstress(Katiyaretal,2009).IthasbeenshownthattherapiddegradationofREDD1ismediatedbytheCUL4A–DDB1–ROC1–b-TRCPE3ligasecomplexandisregulatedbyREDD1phosphorylationatThr25,Thr23andSer19throughtheactivityofGSK3b(Katiyaretal,2009).
