MEK1(MAPKinaseKinase,alsoknownasMKK)isanintegralcomponentoftheMAPkinasecascadethatregulatescellgrowthanddifferentiation(Ahn,1993;Chongetal.,2003).Thispathwayalsoplaysakeyroleinsynapticplasticityinthebrain(AdamsandSweatt,2002).ActivatedMEK1actsasadualspecificitykinasephosphorylatingbothathreonineandatyrosineresidueonMAPkinase(Kyriakisetal.,1991;Segeretal.,1991;Crewsetal.,1992).
